A NOC — no objection certificate, sometimes called a no objection letter — is a notarized consent in which one parent states they have no objection to the other parent, or a named guardian, sponsoring the child's UAE residence visa. It is the standard attachment when the sponsoring parent files the application without the non-sponsoring parent: the immigration desk receives written proof that both parents agree.
Immigration desks read the document literally: it must be in Arabic, notarized by the UAE notary public, and it must carry the details of the child and of the sponsoring parent. Note that a visa NOC and a travel consent are two different documents — for taking the child abroad you need a separate travel consent document. Limits and practical notes

- A visa NOC is not a travel consent: for trips abroad the child needs a separate travel consent document
- Immigration requirements differ by emirate and change over time — confirm current practice with the authority where the application is filed
- The document must name the child and the sponsoring parent; a generic consent without their details can be rejected
- An NOC issued outside the UAE needs the full chain: notarization at home, UAE embassy attestation, MOFA attestation in the UAE and official translation into Arabic
- The sponsor must meet the sponsorship requirements in their own right — the NOC settles consent, not eligibility
- Where the other parent is a UAE resident who meets the sponsorship conditions, the desk may expect that parent to sponsor the child instead of issuing an NOC

Issuing the NOC from outside the UAE
When the consenting parent cannot sign in front of a UAE notary, the document can be prepared abroad — but it only becomes usable in the UAE after the full attestation chain, so start early.

Frequently asked questions
Is an NOC for a child visa the same as permission to travel?
No. The visa NOC covers the residence visa application only. If the child is leaving the country — with one parent or with a relative — you need a separate travel consent document for the border and airline checks.
Can a mother sponsor her child's visa without the father's NOC?
Immigration practice treats the father as the expected sponsor where he is a UAE resident who meets the sponsorship requirements; in that case the desk may expect him to sponsor the children himself. Where he does not act as sponsor, his notarized NOC is the standard requirement.
Does the NOC have to be in Arabic?
Yes — the document is notarized in Arabic at the UAE notary public. You approve a bilingual draft before the session, so you know exactly what you are signing.
The consenting parent is abroad — what do we do?
The NOC can be signed abroad, but it then has to be notarized in that country, attested by the UAE embassy there and by MOFA in the UAE, and officially translated into Arabic. The chain takes time, so start before the visa appointment is booked.
How long does it take to prepare the NOC?
