Germany visa from the UAE (2026)
This is a Schengen state — the visa, fee and 90/180 rule base is shared. Read the full Schengen guide →
Germany runs one of the busiest Schengen operations in the UAE: applications are submitted through VFS Global centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and decided by the German missions here. The visa is a standard Schengen C visa — the same €90 fee and 90/180-day stay as the rest of the zone — so the real work is the appointment calendar and a clean document file.
- Visa fee (adult)
- €90 ≈ AED 360 · child 6–11: €45
- Processing time
- 10–15 days extendable to 45 in peak season
- Stay allowed
- 90/180 days per half-year, Schengen-wide
- Insurance minimum
- €30,000 medical coverage, full Schengen stay
Visas
Who needs this visa
- UAE citizens are visa-waived for Germany (since 2022) — this guide is for UAE residents on other passports.
- Residents holding India, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt, Nigeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Russia and most other non-waiver passports need a C-type Schengen visa.
- Holders of UK, US, Canadian, Australian, Japanese, Gulf and several other waiver passports enter visa-free for up to 90 days — no application needed.
- Applicants submit at the mission covering their emirate of residence: Dubai and the northern emirates under the German Consulate General in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain under the embassy.

Process
How it works
-
Confirm Germany is your main destination
day 0The country of the longest stay issues the visa. If Italy gets more nights than Germany, apply there — filings to the wrong mission are a classic rejection reason.
-
Book the VFS appointment
6–10 weeks aheadAppointment slots for Germany are among the most demanded in the UAE; in high season the calendar fills 6–10 weeks ahead. Book at vfsvisaonline and watch for released cancellations.
-
Prepare the document file
1–2 weeksCollect the checklist above in the given order. German missions are strict about the employer NOC wording and the consistency of dates across bookings, letters and the form.
-
Submit in person with biometrics
1 dayFingerprints and a document check at the VFS centre. Fingerprints repeat every 59 months — if you gave them recently, a representative can submit for you.
-
Consulate decision
10–15 daysThe mission processes the file; officers may call to verify employment. Standard handling is up to 15 calendar days, extendable to 45 when volumes spike.
-
Collect the passport, check the sticker
1–3 daysVerify dates, number of entries and the 'duration of stay' field on the spot. A sticker typo fixed before travel costs a refiling; after departure it costs the trip.
Fees and rules checked September 2026 — confirm with the application center before booking.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I apply for a Germany visa from Dubai?
You can file up to 6 months before travel, and for peak season (December, Easter, summer) you should start at the 3-month mark — the bottleneck is the VFS appointment, not the consulate. Late applicants often have to travel on a different Schengen visa.
Do UAE citizens need a visa for Germany?
No. Since the 2022 waiver, UAE passport holders travel to the whole Schengen area visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The €90 C visa applies to residents on other passports.
How much bank balance do I need to show?
There is no fixed figure. Officers look for a balance consistent with your income and trip length — roughly AED 5,000–10,000 per traveller for a one-week trip is a common working benchmark, supported by 3 months of statements.
Can I enter other Schengen countries with a German visa?
Yes — a Schengen C visa is valid across the whole zone. The application country should be your main destination by length or purpose of stay; entering Germany and driving straight to Austria repeatedly will be questioned on a later application.
Why do Germany applications get rejected?
The frequent reasons: purpose not convincingly documented (no employer NOC or vague cover letter), funds inconsistent with the stated itinerary, and applying to the wrong mission for the actual main destination. Rejections carry the reason code in the refusal letter — fix it before reapplying.
Does a Germany rejection affect future applications?
A refusal itself is not a ban. What matters is whether the next file addresses the stated reason. Applicants with one corrected refusal regularly receive multi-entry visas afterwards.
