Visas

Who needs this visa

  • UAE citizens are visa-waived across the Schengen area (since 2022) — this guide is for UAE residents on other passports.
  • Residents of India, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt, Nigeria, Russia and most other non-waiver passports need a C-type Schengen visa.
  • Applications are submitted via VFS; decisions rest with the Danish mission.
  • Demand is steady rather than seasonal — the calendar is friendlier than the big tourist missions.
  • Holders of UK, US, Canadian, Gulf and several other waiver passports enter visa-free for up to 90 days — no application needed.

Process

How it works

  1. Confirm the main destination

    day 0

The country of the longest stay issues the visa. Filing to the wrong mission for the actual trip is a classic refusal reason.

  2. Book the VFS appointment

    weeks ahead

Slots are claimed through the VFS booking system; in high season calendars fill weeks ahead. Watch for released cancellations.

  3. Prepare the document file

    1–2 weeks

Collect the checklist in order; keep dates identical across the form, bookings, NOC and cover letter.

  4. Submit in person with biometrics

    1 day

Fingerprints and a document check at the VFS centre; fingerprints repeat every 59 months.

  5. Consulate decision

    10–15 days

Standard handling is up to 15 calendar days, extendable to 45 when volumes spike.

  6. Collect the passport, check the sticker

    1–3 days

Verify dates, entries and the duration-of-stay field on the spot — a sticker typo costs a refiling.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I apply?

You may file up to 6 months before travel. For peak-season trips start at the 3-month mark — the appointment calendar, not the consulate, is the constraint.

How much bank balance do I need to show?

There is no fixed figure. Officers look for a balance consistent with your income and trip length, supported by three months of statements.

Why do Schengen applications get rejected?

The frequent reasons: purpose not convincingly documented, funds inconsistent with the stated itinerary, and applying to the wrong mission for the actual main destination. The refusal letter states the code — fix that gap before reapplying.

Does a Danish Schengen visa cover Greenland and the Faroe Islands?

No. Both autonomous territories sit outside the Schengen visa — a separate entry notation or permit is required. If your trip includes them, flag it at filing, not at the border.

Is Denmark suitable for a first Schengen visa?

Yes, with a Denmark-anchored reason for travel. Files are assessed on the standard checklist without unusual extras.
