What Is Emirates ID in the UAE
The Emirates ID is the mandatory identity card for everyone living in the UAE, citizen or resident. A residence visa application ends with biometrics and ID issuance, and the card renews together with the visa.
Why it matters
Why it matters when opening a company
No Emirates ID — no bank account, no mobile contract, no government services: the card unlocks practical life after the visa.
Biometrics are taken once and reused at renewals; for most residents the first visit is the only mandatory one.

Mini-FAQ
Common questions
How long does the Emirates ID take?
Usually 1–2 weeks after biometrics, depending on the emirate and the processing tier selected.
Is the Emirates ID valid after the visa expires?
No — the ID is tied to the visa; renewing one renews the other, and an expired visa invalidates the card.
