Dubai: New custody committee to protect conflict-affected children
Sheikh Maktoum made the decision, which is part of the government’s commitment to ensure the physical and mental well-being of children
His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Judicial Council of Dubai, issued Decision No. (7) of 2022 to establish a Guardianship Committee linked to the Dubai Courts.
The new legislation is part of the Dubai government’s commitment to ensure the welfare and protection of children affected by custody conflicts and to protect their physical and mental well-being.
According to the decision, the Custody Committee will consist of two representatives of the Courts of Dubai, appointed by the Director General of the Courts of Dubai, who will serve as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Committee, and two representatives of the Dubai Community Development Authority, appointed by the Director General of the Authority, one of whom will be from the Child Protection Division.
According to the decision, the Guardianship Committee will consist of two representatives of Dubai Courts appointed by the Director General of Dubai Courts, who will serve as chairman and vice chairman of the Committee, and two representatives of Dubai Community Development Authority appointed by the Director General of the Authority, one of whom will be from the Child Protection Division.
The committee will also include two representatives of the Dubai Police, specializing in child protection, appointed by the Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief, and a member of the Dubai Courts, who will serve as the committee’s rapporteur.
The task of the committee is to prepare a detailed report on the social, mental, medical and criminal status of the person requesting custody or the person to whom the court will grant custody of the child.
