Payment terminals in the UAE for the Mir card
The United Arab Emirates will install payment terminals for Russian “Mir” cards. Currently, two Russian banks are studying such a possibility. It is noted that a similar project is planned to be realized in Turkey.
“We see the demand in the countries where the flow of our tourists has remained and increased. We consider the possibility of serving foreign trade and service enterprises”, – said a representative of one of the banks. First of all, the terminals will be installed in hotels and large stores. Banks may conduct transactions in the test mode now.
In March 2022, international payment systems Visa and Mastercard stopped working in Russia. Residents of Russia now pay with the Mir and UnionPay systems, but their operation is limited abroad.
In September, the U.S. Treasury Department warned foreign banks about the risks of sanctions against them for cooperation with the Russian payment system “Mir,” after which foreign credit institutions began to stop accepting these cards.
Now Mir cards are accepted in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Abkhazia, Kyrgyzstan and some other countries. In Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America continue to work on their implementation.
